Can we talk about Valentine's Day for a minute?
I'm not going to sugarcoat this (see what I did there?). I'm afraid I'm a bit challenged when it comes to the whole Valentine thing. I mean, seriously - it's a national freaking holiday devoted to the thing that some of us have proven to be not so great at - am I right? I mean, did we have to do that?
Look, it's not that I don't honor the subject. Certainly I find the idea of L-O-V-E worthy of contemplation, longing, maybe a few pleasant daydreams along the way. I've generally found the whole notion of romantic love to be so ridiculously huge, awe-inspiring, complex, vexing, and altogether breathtaking that, well... I'm just going to go ahead and admit right here that it has, on occasion, caused me do a few really dumb things. Fortunately all that craziness is behind me now. In addition to being older and smarter, many of you know that for the past several years I've been in serious monogamous relationship - with my dog, Tessa.
Anyway, my shortcomings in this area notwithstanding, this seems like the perfect time for me to offer a little unsolicited advice about how to make the best of The Big Day. So - flowers are nice. As is candy, in moderation. But if you've got some serious wooing to do, there is simply no substitute for a lovely dinner out on the town.
And friends - it is imperative that you pick the right spot. You've simply got to set the right romantic tone. Otherwise things could go downhill fast, but hey, no pressure. Too upscale and snooty and you'll risk looking desperate. Worse, Date might decide you're an effete snob. On the other hand, if you take Date for tacos at your local food truck, Date may conclude you're not really all that serious about this thing.
No - what you need is the Goldilocks of Valentine's Day dining options - a place that has that perfect balance of amazing food, a crazy great wine list, just the right lighting, personal and attentive service (provided by really attractive staff), casual yet elegant décor. Surely there's a place like that somewhere, let's see...(drums fingers on desk, strokes beard, looks off into the distance).

Our Valentine's Day Prix Fixe will be available on both Saturday and Sunday evenings of Valentine's weekend. We'll have everything you need to set just the right romantic tone.
We're casual yet elegant. Our food is delicious and balanced. Our wine list offers adventure and allure. Bringing your Objet d'Affection to TFB will say to them, I'm the kind of person who values quality, yet doesn't need to make a big fussy deal about it (and I know the secret spot where the whole package comes together).
